June 2006

“Welcome Drum Corps Fans!” It’s hard to believe that the 2006 season is finally upon us! And, in my own humble ‘Mom’ opinion, I think Esperanza looks and sounds the best they ever have!!

Of course this is not with out a ton of hard work and dedication from staff and volunteers-from small tasks to large, nothing has been overlooked. In just a very short time, we will be fielding our corps at our home opener at Rancho Bernardo HS and it looks to be another huge success!

And with the show, comes a plea from me…can YOU help out? We still need many volunteers to make the Esperanza Experience the best show in So Cal that it has become known for. If you can help out, please email me ASAP so I can get you on my master list. Volunteer check in time is 4:00 PM on June 23rd. Please check in with Joe Braxel the day of the show @ RBHS.

If you have some extra time that day, however and would like to help out at high noon, Amy Gugler, our kitchen manager could us a hand or 4 serving the people attending the percussion clinic that Esperanza is hosting that day. Very similar to the Brass Masters class that was held in April, this will focus on percussion. If you can help earlier in the day, again, please email me so I can pass the info onto Amy.

We are still looking for help on tour as well. Merchandise still needs at least 2 people for the first 3 weeks of tour. If you can help in that area, please email Jenny Stout @ merchandise@esperanzaarts.org .

Don’t want to cook or sell on tour? I have the perfect job for you! Driving (so the cook crew and merchandise crew can sleep…) This is one of the most important jobs on the tour and vitally necessary to help the corps function at 120%...and keep us cooks from falling asleep in the stew!

But if you happen to be staying home, please sign up for the games at Petco Park. This is a huge fundraiser for Esperanza and even though the corps will be ‘away from home’, it’ll be nice to still get a ‘paycheck’!

Again, a corps is nothing without its volunteers and I have been the lucky duck with all of mine. Thank you all of you for the countless hours at Petco, working on the truck and even helping serve…you are the best!!!
